The 10th meeting of the Advisory Committee of the Division of Business and management (DBM) was held on 15 May, where DBM’s development during the past year and future plans were discussed.

The meeting was chaired by Hong Kong deputy to the National People's Congress, Managing Director of United Overseas Investments Limited Dr David Wong.

The external members attending the conference included Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers Ms Carrie Leung; Senior Partner of KPMG China Ms Maria Lee; Managing Director of Resolutions HR & Business Consultancy Co., Ltd. Mr Wilfred KP Wong; Hong Kong deputy to the National People's Congress, Principal Liaison Officer for Hong Kong of China (Guangdong) FTA Qianhai Shekou Administrative Committee Dr Witman Hung; as well as the Partner of Deloitte Mr Edward Au.

UIC President Prof Tang Tao introduced UIC's educational philosophy and education model. He said that the Advisory Committee plays a very important role in the development of the College and the Division.

“As the biggest Division of UIC, DBM students are excellent in both employment and further education. The College supports DBM to establish the best as well as the most stable faculty to improve teaching and researches, in order to provide more opportunities for students to study abroad, and to cultivate more talents,” President Tang added.

President Tang continued “I hope that DBM will strengthen its cooperation with industries, and experts are also welcomed to UIC and share their professional knowledge with our students”.

Other attendees of the meeting were the Dean of DBM Prof Stella Cho; Assistant Dean Dr Donna Chan; and Programme Director of Applied Economics Prof Wilson Li.

Prof Stella Cho introduced the development and achievements of DBM during the past year, including that of Programmes, professional accreditation, learning resources, graduates’ destination and more.

Members at the meeting gave their suggestions from different perspectives. Dr David Wong said that DBM should encourage teachers to do more research while ensuring the quality of teaching, as well as promote students' enthusiasm for business researches.

Ms Carrie Leung mentioned the impact of technologies on financial industries and she advised that there should be more technology-related courses, or DBM could cooperate with technology-related Programmes at UIC, and invite experts of the industry to communicate with students.
